If you are sitting there wondering how and if you can make money in the party rental business, just think for a second about how many people you know who have children. Now I ask that you multiply that number times 10, because 10 is the average amount of kids that will attend any given birthday party. There is another reason that I love this business so much and that is because parents are now sending more and more on birthday parties regardless of the economy.
Its not easy money – but its good money
This not a get rich quick business, however you do have the opportunity to build wealth over time, but like any legitimate business you will have to pay your dues. What I mean by paying your dues is that there is a learning curve if you are new to the party rental business. When I first started out I was blessed to have a booked out weekend right from the start but that was probably the worst thing that could have happen. I entered into the party rental business with an pre rehearsed plan for if it didn’t work, but I didn’t have a plan for if it actually work.
I had 10 parties scheduled for Saturday, and another 10 parties schedule for that Sunday. Other then the first delivery we ran late for every other delivery for the rest of the day. My last castle was delivered at 2:00 for a party that started at 12 noon.
Nothing is worst then to show up late for a child’s first birthday party, you have yet to be cursed out to that degree trust me. Now the reason we ran late had nothing to do with getting an early start because we left for the first delivery at 6:30am, the problem was everything that happened once arrived at the first delivery.
Everything I learned from experience, I learned in that one day. Welcome to my first day in the party rental business.
1st House - Bower blew the fused, that’s right not tripped the breaker, blew the fuse. This meant we had to go to hardware to replace the blown fuses.
2nd House - Customer ordered a 15×15 Castle but only has space for 13×13 – but that unit was already reserved.
3rd House - I show up at the and my competitor is standing on the porch. The customer over booked on purpose, so she canceled me!
4th House – Customer has limited space in the yard and there was a low hanging power line that ran diagonally across her yard. I canceled due to safty concerns.
5th House - All of the customer’s electrical outlets where two prong but the blowers are three prong – off to the hardware we go again to get adapters.
6th House - The party is in a park but the customer did not furnish a generator, she was under the impression that the unit came with one.
7th House - The booking was a COD but the child’s father was on the other side of town with the money and no one there had $125 to pay for the delivery.
8th House - The customer’s yard was full of dog poop, large German Sheppard poop. Thats all I have to say about that.
9th House - This was a water slide party in a park but the customer did not reserve the shelter which had the only faucet. When the client arrived that reserved the shelter they also reserved a water slide from another company which meant my customer was out of luck, and so was I.
10th House- I was schedule to be there for 12 noon – and you know how that turned out for me.
The reason I introduced you to my worst day in the business was not to scare you away but to give you the reality of what can happen if you’re not prepared for the unexpected. Now everyone one of those worst cases scenarios could have been prevented If I knew then what I am sharing with you now.
The good news is even with all of the disasters of that weekend I still managed to make $2200 which confirmed in me that with proper preparation, I can really make big bucks doing birthday party rentals.
